Requirements for NREI 106 Certification

Prerequisite:

Student must have either counseled a minimum of 30 consumers in the area of mortgage delinquency, or have been employed as a housing counselor at a Counseling Agency for a minimum of 6 months, or have passed the PHFA CHCI Competency Examination.

Requirements for Certification:

  1. Must show proof of meeting the course prerequisite requirements (Letter on Agency letterhead signed by the Agency Executive Director or proof of passing score of PHFA CHCI Competency Examination).
  2. Students must take the 6 day/45 hour NREI Foreclosure Intervention Certification Course (Part One and Part Two)
  3. Must take the proctored 100 question NREI Foreclosure Intervention Certification Examination and pass with a minimum score of 80%. The examination covers foreclosure intervention counseling competency content meeting the standards listed under the Core Operating Standards and demonstrated in the related activities as identified in Exhibit D of the National Industry Standards for Homeownership Education and Counseling.
  4. (In counties where a practicum is required) Must meet Mediation/Diversion Court Certification (Court Monitored) Practicum Requirements*:
  5. (In counties where a practicum is required) Must provide proof of meeting the NREI Diversion Court Certification Practicum Requirements along with proof of completion of the NREI Foreclosure Intervention Certification Course and passing score by uploading proof into the designated NREI Portal.
  6. Successful candidates will be conferred the “NREI Foreclosure Intervention Specialist Certification.” This certification also allows the Foreclosure Intervention Specialist to practice in the County Residential Mortgage Diversion Program, where required or permitted. Philadelphia County has additional requirements).

Term of Certification:

The NREI Foreclosure Intervention Certification shall be valid for 3 years beyond the date of issuance.

Certification Renewal:

Renewal of the NREI Foreclosure Intervention Certification requires that the student complete a minimum of 10 hours of continuing education provided by NREI in subjects primarily related to the core content and delivery of foreclosure intervention and default counseling each year between renewal periods. NREI reserves the right to accept equivalent continuing education courses to meet the continuing education requirement.
